The BRZ nameplate made its debut in the Philippines back in 2012, almost the same time as the launch of its Toyota 86 twin. Only the automatic version of the vehicle was displayed at the event, but the launch did state that the sports car would be available as either an automatic or manual transmission. The new Subaru BRZ was launched at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show and was displayed alongside the new Subaru Forester during the event. This compact sports coupe has 233 hp and 250 Nm of torque which makes it a quicker and more agile machine compared to the last generation. This delivers power to its rear wheels, while mated to a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter Subaru Boxer Engine now placed lower and closer to the driver. Apart from its mean-looking front end, the BRZ’s general exterior/interior layout, design, and components are almost identical to the GR86 because these two cars were the brainchildren of a collaborative effort between Subaru and Toyota, which aims to create a very capable canyon-carving machine in less than the price and production cost of a single-brand-exclusive unit, making them among one of the most affordable thrill-rides in the market. The BRZ, along with its Toyota GR86 twin, takes the battle against the Mazda Miata in the affordable rear-wheel drive sportscar segment. The BRZ (Boxer-Engine Rear-Wheel-Drive Zenith) has become one of the most spotlighted nameplates in the Japanese automaker’s fleet. “Two heads are better than one” – That is the wisdom behind the success of the BRZ, Subaru’s small yet very capable sports coupe.
